Mumbai was built on Bombay Island which is one of the seven
islands. There is no exact date when Mumbai was founded but, people suspected
that it was around 2,00 years ago. Mumbai was first inhabited by a fishing
community named Koli. In Third century B.C. the Maurya Empire gained control of the seven islands. The empire made Mumbai the center of Buddhist and Hindu culture and religion. In the 9th century CE the islands came under the control of indigenous dynasties: Satavahanas, Abhiras, Vakatakas, Kalachuris, Konkan
Mauryas, Chalukyas and Rashtrakutas. It was ruled by the Silharas from 810 to 1260.
